The procedure itself can be open or closed, depending on the clinical situation. Open sinus lifting involves creating a small access to the maxillary sinus through the side wall of the jaw, while the closed method is performed through the hole of the extracted tooth or a small hole.
In both cases, after detachment of the mucous membrane of the maxillary sinus, the resulting space is filled with bone material, which eventually integrates with its own bone.
